How This Yeti 5kWh Tank Expansion Kit Works…

This Link Module and set of four tanks integrates with your Yeti 1500X, Yeti 3000X, or Yeti 6000X Lithium power pack. The Link installs inside the lid of your Yeti Lithium unit, and connects to the first of the Tank expansion batteries using the EC8 cable. Jumper to the second Tank battery using the other EC8 cable, and continue the daisy chain from the second to the third Tank, and from the third to the fourth. The display on the front of the Link module lets you know the state of charge of your Tank system.

Using Solar with your Yeti Tank system

Several options exist for charging your Yeti Tank system from solar.
1. Connect Solar to your Yeti
You can plug up to 360W of solar into the Anderson Power Pole Port (APP) on the face of your Yeti. The built-in solar charge controller can handle a little more than this, so don’t worry if you want to plug two Boulder 200W panels to your unit. While the 8mm input (120W) will flow through to the entire Yeti+Tank system, the APP port connection will only charge your Yeti.
2. Connect Solar to the End of your Tank Expansion Units
You can also connect solar directly to your Yeti Tank expansion system using an external solar charge controller. Goal Zero has bundled an extremely nice Victron SmartSolar 100/50 or 100/30 controller with the EC8 & APP cables you need to connect your solar panels to the controller, and the controller to the last Tank unit in your chain. We recommend using no more than the 100/30 (30A) model with up to 400W of solar for two Tank units, and the 100/50 model with as much as 700W of solar for 4 or more Tank units.

Charging your Yeti Tank system from a Wall Outlet

The 25A Fast Charger is your best option for keeping your Yeti topped-off at all times. Use the standard wall charger into the 8mm input port to charge the entire Yeti+Tank system.
Only the 8mm input port on the Yeti Battery Pack will flow through to the Tank Expansion Batteries. You can also plug an additional wall charger into the 8mm port on the LINK module for additional charging speed.

Home Back-Up Power

Charge your Yeti & Tank system from a main outlet in your home, and connect the Yeti system to your emergency load panel (HIK), and you have an instant back-up power system. If/when the grid goes down, throw the transfer switch on the HIK, and your emergency loads are powered directly from your Yeti & Tank system and any solar you might have integrated with it.
