How Powerful Is The Yeti 1250?
The Goal Zero Yeti 1250 Solar Generator is best used with your larger sized power devices. For example, it can charge a laptop as many as 20 times! Or run a small mini fridge for up to 20 hours.
Due to power losses inherent in providing AC inverter power, it is recommended to use the 12V power ports as your primary outlets, and utilize the AC outlets only when necessary.
What Solar Can Be Added to the Yeti 1250?
While you can use any solar module with the Yeti 1250, we recommend the Goal Zero Boulder series for easy plug & play. Goal Zero recommends staying under 240 Watts total between the Yeti’s two input ports, but the specifications on the Anderson Power Pole input is 20A, and can accommodate as much as 300W.
Here are some options to consider…
Boulder 50 (8mm connector)
Boulder 100 (8mm connector)
Boulder 100 Briefcase (8mm connector)
Boulder 200 Briefcase (Anderson PP connector)
Solar Flex 100E (MC4 connectors)
Dasol 135W (MC4 connectors)
Cables to Make The Solar Connection…
Depending on the solar module you choose, the following cables will get it connected to your Yeti 1250. We’ve noted the connector type for popular modules in the list above.
8mm to Anderson
Anderson Extension
MC4 to Anderson
Comparing Against The Yeti 1400-Lithium?
Consider that you should never drain a lithium battery below 50% too often, or you will shorten the life of the battery (ie you will approach the stated cycle life). So, these two batteries are effectively a 600 Watt-Hour (Yeti 1250), and a 700 Watt-Hour with reserve (Yeti 1400).
The Yeti 1400 is considerably lighter weight, but cannot be chained like the Yeti 1250 can (out to 3 additional group-31 batteries = 2400 Watt-Hours total storage).
Due to this expandability factor, and the fact that replacement batteries for the 1400 are much more expensive than those for the 1250, if you are using the Yeti in a semi-stationary application, like cottage/cabin/tiny-house solar, or home back-up power, the Yeti 1250 may be the better choice for you.
