Rapid increase in the demand of renewable energy sources in the last year means that we may be closer than we think to cutting fossil fuel consumption altogether, despite rising electricity usage. Clean electricity has grown from 19% of all electricity sources in 2000 to more than 30% of global output last year. Wind and solar energy have led the charge, making up over 13% of renewable energy sources in 2023, with solar more than doubling the output of coal.
World leaders are aiming to tip the balance in the energy industry with promises to move 60% of global energy into renewables by 2030. Though we may be wary of governmental promises, this time they have encouraging data to back them up. This goal of 60% does more than change our planet, it also will provide more jobs in the renewable energy sector.
